WHO EXACTLY ARE WE?
We are a network run by young adults, with experts in the back to allow us to stay grounded and make sure we are delivering reputable information and ideas, but ultimately from our own point of view and with our own perspective!!!
We want to connect with peers based on interest areas important to them individually, involving you as much or as little as you like. You can hover, observe and chat or you can take charge and become a Peer Ambassador leading or driving and interest group yourself!
You can connect with others, share your interests, projects you’ve tried, questions you have and answers you can give.
You can do all sort of things in between as well. Get involved or just talk about it. Up to you!
Currently our primary sections are nutrition, health, fitness, life skills, and leadership!
Our Peer Ambassadors publish articles, run discussion & debates, do interviews, put up their projects, post challenges, and help sum everything up with conclusions into usable info for all of you!
We also are starting to set up a couple groups with a German organization called “Kinder für Weltfrieden” (Kids for World Peace). You can get involved to help organize projects like interviews, festivals, and lots of other events. Right now, the related groups are private, but it is easy to ask to join in. Just go to our Team Section, hover over the group Power Teens and request an invite (all the way to the right). You will need to create an account to do this (only name & email required. A 3-sec sign up).
We are in the process of having a debate, public speaking area as well.
Most of what we do will be done through Skype, email, and our Peer Forum.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A PEER AMBASSADOR – PA?
I thought you’d never ask…. LOL… no seriously though, a Peer Ambassador, or PA, is a member who falls into the age group anywhere between 13 and 25ish and who has expressed the ambition and drive to be in the forefront of our community.
Some of them have approached us over interests deeply relevant to them and feeling these interests had a significant enough following among their peers to be dug in deeper. These interest include chronic diseases and disabilities, or current struggles being dealt with.
Some were already involved in or wanted to become involved in specialty programs or special areas of professional life and decided this community would be a great way to get their feet wet and develop themselves. Ethan and Ashlyn are two who would best be described by this as they are heading off gaming\coding and leadership sections respectively under our life skill area.
And some just wanted to get involved, help, have fun, well and maybe hone their skills, such as Victor and Ashley.
There are many more and we are growing quite quickly having peers not only in the U.S.A. but also already in Germany.
Where do you want to be?
Are you interested in maybe finding a bit more to do then just to read and chat?
AND WHAT IS THE “EXPERT IN THE BACK” – EBs?
Our “Experts in the Back” are volunteers who are subject matter experts or experienced professionals. They might be a certified nutritionist, pediatrician, psychologist, or of any other related profession. Currently we have a published writer, a field grade officer with a Master in Leadership, a professional and field vetted fitness instructor, an established business leader, and a finance expert. We are working on getting more volunteers together.
Our EBs have two primary roles:
- They are available to provide input, feedback, and guidance to our PAs. Our PAs are the driving force, initiating topic ideas, but often are not quite sure where to go from there. The experts are their resource, their connection point to move forward.
- They help us all keep an eye on their subject area and make sure things are not getting out of hand or going down a rabbit hole so to speak. If it does, they help bring things back on point.
IF YOU ARE AN EXPERT & INTERESTED IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE
BTW HOW DID YOU END UP WITH “SQUID NET”?
Well… we used to be a community called “Let’s Go Teens!!!”. But true to our vision of what we wanted to be, we opened up the door for feedback and it turned out the name just wasn’t sitting right with the majority of you all. So after a few brainstorming sessions with several of our Peer Ambassadors we decided to open up a re-naming challenge voting on our new name.
After several days of voting we drew a winner from the pool of participants. Here the drawing done by our former Peer Ambassador of the Nutition and Fitness Section: Drawing Winner for Re-Name Poll
At this point we are still in the middle of logo development again with a group of Peer Ambassadors and a few professional designers…. so stay tuned where it gets us!
